“The Mash-up Experiment” is a six-minute musical piece whose main intention is to explore in-studio composition and the cloudy waters of musical appropriation. Entitled in honour of James Bernard (one of the greatest soundtrack composers of all time), it was created entirely in the recording studio. This project was possible thanks to the re-utilisation of other songs’ fragments, FX libraries, samples, and virtual instruments. Authorship, musicianship, and the legal boundaries of intellectual property are some of the sensible topics that will be undeniable questioned after listening to the finished tune.
