The main goal of this project was to tackle with the idea of fear as an instrument used to control the actions of free individuals. Inspired by the thoughts of Zygmunt Bauman, “Circular Fear” is a generative installation comprised of five strategically located speakers placed inside a room, which produce a surrounding sonic experience. Visitors will be exposed to a couple of frequencies and two pre-recorded speeches (one will be a dictator’s speech, and the other a preacher’s discourse). The first two sounds will be placed on top of the mix, creating a vibrant and disturbing latency. The other ones will be tamed down to an almost imperceptible volume level, creating an indistinguishable distress source.
